🌍🌍🌍🌍🌍🌍

Task 1: English

LO: The Lorax

Watch, read and follow the video below of the Lorax story. You will need to keep going back to this for your work. Underneath the video is 3 activities I want you to complete into your exercise books. This is a fantastic story and you should be able to produce some amazing writing using the Lorax for inspiration.

The Lorax - Read Aloud Picture Book

Activity 1:
  • Can you identify and make a list of words that rhyme in this story? Write them into you exercise book. You may have to go back to the start and listen again for those rhyming words.
  • Extension: Do you know the name of the rhyming pattern used in this story?

Activity 2: The Lorax Writing Prompts

Choose two of the writing prompts below. Write a detailed paragraph into you exercise books to explain your answer.

  1. Contrast the landscape in the story. What did it look like when the Once-ler first arrived? What did it look like after the Lorax was lifted away?
  2. The Once-ler builds a factory to produce Thneeds. Would you buy a Thneed? Why or not?
  3. The Once-ler invented a Super-Axe-Hacker to chop down Truffula Trees. (It can take down four Truffula Trees at a time.) Describe something you would invent. What would it look like? What would it do?
  4. "UNLESS someone like you cares an awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." You have the power to change the world. What is something you will do?
  5. What lesson did the Once-ler learn? If he could go back in time, do you think he would cut down all the Truffula Trees? Explain what you think he would do.

Activity 3:

Copy and complete the worksheet/picture below into your exercise books. The left side you need to write what the Land of the Lorax was like before the Once-ler arrived. On the right you need to write what it was like after the Oncer-ler arrived. In the middle you need to write what has stayed the same throughout the story.

Lent is the time of year when Christians prepare for Easter. Lent begins in February or March, depending on the date of Easter. The word Lent comes from an older English word meaning “springtime.”

As Christians we observe Lent in different ways. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday (the day after Shrove Tuesday, or Mardi Gras). It lasts for 40 days, not counting Sundays, and ends on Easter.

During Lent, many Christians fast, or go without regular meals. They do this in memory of Jesus Christ, who is said to have fasted for 40 days in the desert.

We think about making Lent Promise, something to do during lent or give up to show our love for one another.

Have a go at copying, drawing and colouring in this poster so we remember the importance of Lent.
